Fatima’s First School Book – How a Piece of Paper Gives Hope

Insight into our educational work in Morocco

In a remote village near Ouarzazate, Morocco, nine-year-old Fatima lives with her mother and three younger siblings. Until a few months ago, she had never seen the inside of a school. Her family struggles daily to survive – education was a distant dream. But today, Fatima holds her first school book in her hands. And her smile says more than a thousand words.

Poverty often means: no school

In many regions where HCI operates, poverty means not only empty stomachs, but also a lost future. Children like Fatima spend their days fetching water, cooking, or looking after siblings. School? No time. No materials. No space.

But with the help of our donors, we were able to start right here. In cooperation with local partners, we have set up a mobile learning center – with tables, notebooks, pens and two volunteer teachers.

Small things, big impact

What does it take to enable children like Fatima to start school?

  • A set of school materials: approx. €12
  • A teacher per month: approx. €150
  • A mobile learning space: from €1,200

These are not huge sums – but they make a huge difference.

“I want to be a doctor,” says Fatima shyly, “so that I can help the people in the village.”

Education is the first step out of poverty

Our vision is a world in which every child is allowed to learn – regardless of their origin. That is why we are committed to access to education not only in Morocco, but also in Syria, Bangladesh and other regions.
